EPS2.04 Expanding the cystic fibrosis mental health screening guidelines: using the pediatric symptom checklist to identify and treat mental health symptoms in children 4–11 years of age

Objective: International CF guidelines recommend mental health (MH) screening over the age of 12, however no for school-aged children currently exist. Early intervention reduces risk MH symptoms later in life. was integrated into standard care at a large pediatric center U.S. with goal early identification and intervention. Methods: The Pediatric Symptom Checklist (PSC-17) used as part routine beginning Jan 2021. PSC-17-has three subscales: Internalizing, Externalizing, Attention. Scores 5 or greater on Internalizing subscale 7 Externalizing Attention subscales suggest concerns Total Score above 15 is clinically significant. Parents (cwCF) ages 4–11 completed PSC-17 during clinic visits. Results: 141 were from 2021–Dec 2022, mean 7.4 years. score 5.8 (SD = 5.8), 9% cwCF scoring significant range. 7% screened at-risk internalizing symptoms, 4% externalizing, 11% attention difficulties. 15% parents responded “yes” to question, “Does your child have any emotional behavioral problems which she/he needs help?” Of those elevated scores, 100% seen by Psychologist same day assessment Conclusion: In general population, about 8% 5–11-year-olds ADHD 5% experience anxiety (National Center Health Statistics, 2020). Approximately 6–11 exhibit externalizing difficulties (Child Adolescent Measurement Initiative, 2019). Based current data, this population are than population. Next steps include examination longitudinal data determine if scores predict adolescence.
